Mangifera Indica Leaves Extract Modulates Serum Leptin, Asymmetric Dimethylarginine and Endothelin-1 Levels in Experimental Diabetes Mellitus

چکیده
Diabetes is a chronic disease that is relatively common throughout the world. The present study was carried out in an attempt to investigate the possible antidiabetic activity of Mangifera indica (mango) leaves extract in streptozotocin (STZ)–diabetic rats. In addition, the effect of extract on diabetes complications as cardio, vascular and endothelial dysfunction was also studied. 30 male adult albino rats were divided to three groups (10 rats each) and were studied as following scheme for 42 days, group (1) normal control, group (2) diabetic control rats were given distilled water daily by gastric incubation, and group (3) diabetic rats were treated orally with Mangifera indica leaves aqueous extract. Blood samples were collected at 21 and 42 day for different biochemical parameters estimations. The Mangifera indica extract administration to diabetic rats significantly decreased the level of blood glucose, leptin, asymmetric dimethylarginine and endothelin–1 as well as lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase and aspartate aminotransferase activities. The levels of insulin, C–peptide and nitric oxide were significantly increased. Further, the extract showed significant antihyperlipidemic activity. These findings demonstrated that Mangifera indica leaves extract possess antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic properties thus suggesting its beneficial effect in the treatment of diabetes mellitus associated with hyperlipidemia and related cardiovascular complications.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Mangifera indica leaves extract on the kidney function parameters in alloxan induced diabetic Swiss albino mice. Forty five albino mice (weighing 28 to 32 g) were randomly divided into control, alloxan treated and Mangifera indica treated mice group. Diabetes was induced in mice by injecting intraperitoneally alloxan monohydrate at ...

The study was undertaken to investigate the hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective effects of the different fractions (Petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and chloroform) of ethanolic extract of immature leaves of Mangifera indica. The different fractions of extract were administered intraperitonially as a single dose of 150 mg/kg body weight to alloxan induced diabetic rats and found to reduce blood li...

Acetamiprid (ACP) belonging to the neonicotinoid family used against wide array of pests in agriculture and domestic purposes. In this study, we evaluated the attenuating effects of ethanolic extract of Mangifera indica leaves (EEMI) in averting reproductive toxicity caused by ACP in male guinea pigs. Thirty male guinea pigs were randomly assigned to five treatment groups (n = 6). Grou...

Azadirachta indica , an Indian medicinal plant, has been studied for its role in diabetes and its effect on lipid profile. This study was conducted to elucidate whether treatment of Azadirachta indica leaf extract after streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetes has anti-hyperglycemic and anti-dyslipidaemic action or not. The experiment involved four groups of rat; one group was control group, secon...
